If you happend to read my posts about my favourite quotes in order, there is a specific order that I wrote them in. I started with perspective, you need to take a broad view before you start anything. The next was accountability to yourself, to make sure you did the work. Now consistency, you need to keep doing the work. If you didn't start from the beginning, you can read more about my motivation here.

After Stephen Covey, Tony Robbins was the second self-help guru that I read. He is often the butt of jokes but in fairness to him, he gets results. This quote kinda sums everything up for me. I could stop with just this quote but for someone like me, hearing something from different people and perspectives, helps information sink-in.

I like this because it highlights the importance of purpose. If you are not clear on why you are doing something then being consistent at it is a fools errand. Knowing what your goals are and why you want to achieve them helps you to be consistent when times are toughest.

Similar to Tony Robbins' quote Gretchen emphasizes what really matters. Going to the gym every January is not what produces results. In general progress is not made on major goals by bingeing. Slow and steady wins the race for the big things in life.

Learning languages or programming are great examples of what John is talking about. I'm learning Spanish at the moment. If I spend a few hours on a particular day, I have forgotten most of it a week later. But on those days that I spend twenty minutes and just learn a little, it seems to stick. We are not computers, we need to be slowly fed information if any of it is going to really stick.
